Device Shows Offline in CMSV6 / CMSV7

The vehicle’s recorder is powered and may even be recording locally, but the CMSV6/CMSV7 platform shows it grey/offline — no live video, no GPS updates. The device isn’t reaching the server over its cellular link. This is a connection-chain problem, and the camera hardware is almost never the culprit.

The 3 most likely causes

1. Dead or suspended SIM card

The number one cause. Prepaid data SIMs expire, IoT SIM pools hit their cap, accounts get suspended — and the unit goes dark from the platform side while working normally in the cab. Nothing on the device changed, so it’s the last thing people suspect.

2. Wrong or reset APN settings

The APN is the gateway name your carrier requires. If it doesn’t match the SIM’s carrier, the radio connects to the tower but data never flows. Firmware updates and factory resets are notorious for silently wiping APN settings back to defaults.

3. Server IP / port changed or wiped

The device must point at your exact CMSV6 server address and port. A reset can revert this to a factory default server — the unit then connects happily to the wrong place, or to nothing at all.

What to try first

  1. Pull the SIM and drop it in an unlocked phone. If a webpage won’t load, the SIM/plan is your problem — no device setting will fix it.
  2. In the device network menu, verify the APN matches the SIM’s carrier exactly (check the carrier’s published APN).
  3. Verify the center/server IP and port in the device match your CMSV6 server settings.
  4. Check the 4G antenna lead is connected and undamaged behind the unit — a pinched antenna cable drops signal strength enough to keep a unit offline in fringe coverage.

Still down? Fixed today or you don’t pay.

If the checks above didn’t bring it back, the fault is deeper — configuration, platform, or firmware level. That’s exactly what the $50 flat Remote Diagnostic & Fix Session handles: one remote session, most fixes in 15–30 minutes, full refund if it can’t be resolved.

Common questions

The device was online yesterday and nothing changed. Why is it offline?

Something changed off the truck: SIM plans expire and carriers retire or suspend service without warning. Test the SIM in a phone first — it’s a two-minute check that catches the most common cause.

Do I need to be at the vehicle to fix an offline device?

Often not. Server-side and platform-side faults are fixable fully remotely, and device-side settings can be corrected in a short session with anyone who can access the recorder menu — a driver at the yard works fine.
